COLLEGE FESTIVAL - TARANG 2007

Lady Shri Ram College proudly invites you to TARANG 2007, its annual mélange of the aesthetic, physical and intellectual talents, exploring the diverse forms of expression of yourself and beyond.

Bringing together students and colleges from all over the country on a platform for music, dance, drama, debates, quizzing, literary marathons, art, photography and much more, as well as rocking bands and tantalizing food festivals;

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th days of November this year promise to be a sparkling celebration of all that is fun and more.

Details/Rules for Events at Tarang 2007

Dramatics Society

On the stage of life, under glaring lights; Infinite emotions outpour, magnifying reality…

Yavanika –– The Stage Play Competition 

  1. Each college must submit its script, cast lists, synopsis and slot preference and register by 27th October 2007. It may be emailed to lsrdramsoc@yahoo.com.

  2. The play should be either in English or Hindi.

  3. Time limit: 45 minutes, curtain to curtain.

  4. No props will be provided.

  5. The slot for a tech check will be given at the time of confirmation.

  6. Only two entries are allowed per college and elimination will be based on concept and script.

Nukkad –– The Street Play Competition

  1. Only one entry allowed per college.

  2. Each college will be allowed to one musical instrument.

  3. Time limit: 30 minutes.

  4. No props allowed, except dupattas and lathis.

  5. Registration by 27th October 2007.

  6. It may be emailed to lsrdramsoc@yahoo.com.

Abhaya- Women’s Development Cell

The Women's Development Cell of LSR deals with issues and causes related to women, gender and sexuality among many others.

The society seeks to create awareness as well generate an interest in issues that need to be discussed openly in society.

White Balance –– A Short Film Competition

  1. Topics: Dilli Walo Ki Dilli; All About Eve;
    In the Name of Religion; Private vs. Public.

  2. The running time of your film should not exceed 20 minutes.

  3. You can either form a team (not more than 5 people)
    or choose to work individually.

  4. There is no limit on the number of films you can enter.

  5. The judges will shortlist five of the best films. These five films will be screened during Tarang. At the end of each film, the film maker(s) will be given 10 minutes of interaction time with the audience.

  6. The last date for submitting entries is 24th October, 2007.

  7. Films should be submitted on CD/DVD to any of the coordinators along with your contact details (Name, telephone number, email id).

 Funk from Junk –– A Collage Making Competition

  1. You may register either individually or as part of a team of not more than five people.

  2. Registration will begin one hour before the commencement of the event. However you can email us at wdc.lsr@gmail.com to book a spot for yourself.

  3. A maximum of 10 teams will be allowed to participate.

  4. All material will be provided to you.

  5. Time limit: 30 minutes.

  6. There is no limit on the number of teams per college.

  7. Teams may be formed of people from different colleges.

  8. Topics will be given on the spot.  

Quiz Society

Teasing Trivia, fascinating facts, visual delights of the historical and the contemporary.

Quriosity –– The Quiz Competition

  1. Two member teams.

  2. No restrictions on the number of teams.

  3. Preliminary elimination rounds.

  4. Registration begins 1 hour prior to the event.

English Debating Society

Debate is the privilege of Freedom. We bring together the best wits in the circuit to wax eloquent and argue and agree to disagree. 

The Murlidhar Memorial Debate

  1. Conventional format of Debating, two speakers per team, one speaking for, the other speaking against the motion.

  2. Three + one minutes speaking time per speaker.

  3. Two interjections per speaker.

  4. No cross questioning allowed.

  5. Registration begins two hours prior to the event.

  6. Maximum number of teams: 20 (one per college)

 Blitzkrieg –– The Extempore Debate

      1. Two minutes speaking time, two minutes preparation time.

      2. Open-ended motions.

      3. Maximum number of participants per college: Three
      4. Registration begins 
two hours prior to the event.

Hindi Debating Society

Watch ideas, fantasies and opinions fly thick and fast as silver tongued wordsmiths wage a war of words…

  1. One team (consisting of two members) per college.

  1. Up to two participants from each college will be allowed to compete.

  2. Topics will be given on the spot.

  3. There will be no word limit.

  4. Poems, essays, stories, etc may be written.

  5. Registration begins 2 hours prior to the event.

 Expressions –– The Literary Society

Elocution

  1. Time allowed: three + two minutes.

  2. Picking the piece: original composition, poetry, prose, drama extract.

  3. Medium: English.

  4. No gestures allowed.

  5. Judging criteria: clarity, choice of piece, voice modulation, expression.

  6. Registration begins two hours prior to the event.

Literary Marathon

  1. Participation in teams of two.

  2. The competition tests your literary inclinations through
    word games, cross words, JAM sessions, etc.

  3. Details of the rules to be disclosed on the spot.

  4. Registration begins two hours prior to the event.

  5. Conversion into elimination rounds if need be, at the discretion of the organizing authority.

 Hive –– The Fine Arts’ Society

An eye for detail, visualising the world in shapes and forms every colour, every curve that has a language of its own...

  1. Registration will begin one and a half hour before the event, on a first-cum-first basis.

  2. A team must consist of exactly two members.

  3. Time limit: one hour 30 minutes.

Graffiti Competition

  1. Registration will begin one and a half hour before the event, on a first-cum-first basis.

  2. A team must consist of exactly four members.

  3. Time limit: two hours.

Ad Making Competition

  1. Registration will begin one and a half hour before the event, on a first-cum-first basis.

  2. A team must consist of exactly two members.

  3. Time limit: two hours.

  4. Each team must make two ads.

  5. Topic and material to be given on the spot.

  1. Registration will begin one hour 30 minutes before the event, on a first-cum-first basis.

  2. A team must consist of exactly two members.

  3. Time limit: one hour 30 minutes.

    1. Registration will begin 1 hour 30 minutes before the event, on a first-cum-first basis.

    2. A team must consist of exactly four members.

    3. Time limit: two hours.

    4. Teams must bring their own material. Use of food items is not allowed.
