During 2006-07, the Academic Forum focused on
various contemporary concerns and interdisciplinary issues by
organizing a series of lectures, panel discussions and a seminar.
Strategic analyst Mr. V. K. Anand examined the experience of nation
building in Afghanistan and the problems of internal security through
an interesting presentation on the evolving situation in the
strife-torn region. The Acad Forum also organised a stimulating panel
discussion on the privatisation of education by Mr. Amir Ullah Khan,
the Secretary-General of the PHDCCI and Prof. Albeena Shakeel, of
Jamia Millia Islamia, which fuelled an animated debate.
The interdisciplinary theme of the seminar on
‘Revolution’ elicited a wide array of perspectives from participants.
Interpretations of the term Revolution ranged from the relationship of
protest movements to literature and music, to prevalent understandings
of jingoism and spiritual awakening through modes such as multimedia
presentations and an original short film. The Acad Forum organized an
exciting interactive session with
Ms. Anjali Bharadwaj of Satark Nagrik Sangathan, on the Right to
Information Act and the issues surrounding it.
Professor Jayati Ghosh held a highly captivating
talk on the theoretical conceptualisation of Special Economic Zones
and the controversies regarding their implementation in India. In
addition, Acad Forum, in collaboration with Dhyana, held an
interactive session where journalist and author Ms. Gitanjali Prasad
shared her insights into the great Indian family.
The Academic Forum helped in the preparation of
the LSR teams for two Model United Nation Assemblies. A three-member
team represented Kenya, Pakistan and Canada at the Sri Venkateshwara
MUN and received a special mention for their efforts. A ten member
team representing Kazakhstan and Papua New Guinea participated in the
Harvard National Model United Nations at Boston.
