A Doyen Passes Away

Dr Bharat Ram
1914-2007
With deep sorrow we convey the news of the sad demise of our beloved
former Chairman of LSR College,
who left for Heavenly Abode on Tuesday, 10 July 2007 after a prolonged
illness.
Born on 15 October 1914 in
Delhi, he graduated in Economics with Honours from St. Stephens
College in 1935. He joined Delhi Cloth Mills Ltd. (DCM) in 1935 as an
apprentice and rose to the position of Chairman and Managing Director in
1958. When he passed away he was the Chariman Emeritus of the company.
He took
keen interest in social and public affairs and made outstanding
contributions to the cause of education and sports. To us he
was a Doyen of understanding and astute leadership who guided our
destiny for decades.
A veteran industrialist whose acumen and philanthropy were behind a host
of well known business and educational institutions such as SRF Ltd and other entities of the DCM Group. He was very closely
involved with prestigious organisations like Ganga Ram Hospital, Shri Ram
College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College, the Delhi Golf Club and the
Shri Ram Centre
In a
tribute to his stature, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul, PRIME MINISTER Manmohan Singh and a galaxy of political
and corporate leaders joined his family members at his funeral on
Wednesday, 11 July at the Lodhi Road crematorium.
